Deep state versus nation state: The case of the KEERFA "anti-racist" movement

Petros Konstantinou is an Athens city councilman who heads a major “anti-racist” organization, while little is publicly known about his background.

In Greece every year, the UN sponsors an “anti-racist” rally which is run by KEERFA (“Movement United Against Racism and the Fascist Threat”). Who are they and what do they stand for? They are an “anti-racist” unit that appears everywhere anytime an “issue” develops with illegal migrants.
What does one mean by the word “illegal”? No migrants in Greece were ever legal or did they ever arrive with an agreement prior to appearing in Greece (apart from a few under the military junta of the late 1960’s-70’s from Pakistan). Once the Soviet Union fell, tens of thousands of Albanians arrived. Decades later, the government started to “legalize” their status. The Greek population was never told that Albania had de-facto joined the Schengen zone, nor were they ever told when joining the EEC (precursor to the EU) that a regime of open borders would exist with neighboring countries such as Bulgaria or Italy. Hence, anyone and more often than not everyone who fancied coming to Greece arrived, from Bangladeshis to Pakistanis, and in the last two years according to Frontex (the EU’s “border force”) from over 70 countries. A neoliberal free-for-all.

The omnipresent Petros Konstantinou

KEERFA was set up as a front by a far-left group called SEK, whose leader Panos Garganas is the twin brother of the ex-central banker of Greece (under the PASOK-Costas Simitis government that introduced the Euro) and is currently led by a certain Petros Konstantinou. This individual has been involved in almost everything and pops up everywhere like a jack in the box. Konstantinou rallied the migrants when the Greek police allegedly burnt a Koran, he was outside Marfin Bank when it was burnt to smithereens by alleged “anarchists,” he was present when migrant strawberry fruit pickers were allegedly shot at, he attended rally after rally to open the borders in the Evros region adjacent to Turkey, and also made his appearance at all of the migrant squats that developed in Athens after German chancellor Angela Merkel invited half the planet to the EU. A characteristic example is that of the former Olympic Airways terminal at the decommissioned Ellinikon Airport in Athens. Konstantinou has also been instrumental in organizing anti-Trump rallies in Athens.

Indeed, Konstantinou has apparently been making the rounds going back quite a few years. In 2001, at the infamous G8 “anti-globalization” summit in Genova, which has long been a cause célèbre for the globalist “anti-fascist” left, Konstantinou is seen pictured with a young Alexis Tsipras, at a time when Tsipras was an unknown for the majority of Greeks. In 2005, Konstantinou appeared in court as one of the witnesses in defense of the alleged co-founder of the infamous November 17 terrorist group Giannis Serifis, at his trial.
Will the real Petros Konstantinou please stand up?
Who is he really? Despite being an elected councilor in the municipality of Athens, it is almost impossible to find an actual biography, resume, or CV of this individual. He originally hails from Cyprus, and his English is superb. He has appeared at British Labour Party sponsored rallies in the UK and with their affiliated trade unions, speaking about “racism” in Greece and fighting… Golden Dawn. Recently this famous “anti-racist” was published in the Avgi newspaper — a SYRIZA party organ — supporting the nationalism of Skopje (FYROM) whilst condemning the… “nationalism” of Greece.
Despite the murders of countless of Greeks at the hands of migrants, Konstantinou has never once organised a rally in defense of the Greeks murdered (as there have never been violent deaths of Greeks according to Konstantinou after torture for petty thefts!). Meanwhile, one of the two most infamous cases of murder by migrants against Greeks, the case of Manolis Kantaris — who was murdered inplain sight for his camera, leaving behind a wife that was about to give birth — never once reached the radar of KEERFA. After all, anti-racism works only in one direction. It can only be Greeks who are racist, no one else.

Petros Konstantinou at an ANTARSYA event

Konstantinou’s economic motives and the sponsors behind him are globalist big business who want wages adjusted downwards between the EU and Asia. If they can’t export all business to low cost zones, they import tens of thousands of workers to higher income regions. KEERFA is there to defend illegal migration, illegal business operations and a zero tax economy with slave labor wages. It’s that blunt.
For more than a decade, right in the middle of Greece’s main shopping thoroughfare in central Athens, Ermou Street, there were African migrants selling their wares (Chinese counterfeits of famous named brands). While Greeks who have been caught selling goods on the street without a licence are immediately arrested and fined up to €5,000 for tax evasion, no such laws apply to migrants. When shopkeepers began protesting and chasing migrants who were camped outside their shops they were immediately branded as “racist.” Paying workers wages and social insurance is obviously racist when maintaining a shop with legal employees and maintaining a license to operate.
KEERFA’s neoliberal free-for-all is from a dystopian future whereby anyone does whatever they want, irrespective of any given laws which have emerged over the course of history. They appear to be “progressive” whilst promoting absolute degenerate decline. If, for instance, dozens of migrants set up camp in a square (as they did in the infamous Agios Panteleomonas neighborhood in Athens) drinking booze and selling drugs all day and harassing local women, those who are seen to be complaining about such behavior (as for instance local Greek residents did) makes those people unwilling to accept migrants and their …shortcomings.
Globalism has its moral equivalence: everything is to be accepted, from female genital mutilation to the rapes of women, religious obscurantism, overt male chauvinism and sexism, and public displays of gross anti-gay prejudice all in the name of accepting any race of migrants from wherever they happen to arrive from. Nowadays, being part of an indigenous nation with its own issues and shortcomings is passé. Being a citizen of the world, footloose, with no concern as to how one affects others is the new fashion. “Tolerance” and “acceptance” are the new catchphrases. So in practice, to paraphrase George Orwell in Animal Farm, “[a]ll beliefs are equal, but some beliefs are more equal than others.” The result is extreme intolerance towards all nation state-based cultures.
One could argue that this range of global diversity in a city encourages people to stay put. They don’t need to go to Colombia to obtain cheap cocaine or fly to Indonesia to rape underage children. These services can be available right around the corner, and if you are still in a protected occupation like a successful author or a lawyer, you can always find a cheap builder who pays no taxes or social insurance contributions to service your housing needs, when not looking for small boys to service your… sexual needs. KEERFA caters for all tastes by branding individuals and entire groups of citizens as… “racists.” By sheer “coincidence,” these “racists” are always Greek. What else could they be?
In fact, certain studies that have been carried out show that too much ‘diversity’ leads to massive increases in mental health issues and what has been termed as “white flight.” Who would want their children attend schools where the overwhelming majority do not speak the main language of the country they are residing in, or where customs are so different whereby one cannot eat certain foods or drink alcohol without being branded an… “infidel”?
Konstantinou is apparently isolated, and politically is located on the “far left” in a group known as ANTARSYA, which receives around 1 percent in national parliamentary elections but is always in the media and always holds highly visible press conferences. Konstantinou himself always is protected wherever he goes.
Oddly enough, ANTARSYA proclaims itself as a leaderless party, governed collectively by committee instead of by one individual. In turn, Konstantinou, a public official via his position as city councilman in Athens, is a man without a past, with no public biography available. However, the CIA’s World Factbook in fact lists Konstantinou as the leader of the “leaderless” ANTARSYA. Slip of the tongue?

Did the CIA World Factbook reveal Petros Konstantinou as the leader of the “leaderless” ANTARSYA party?

In a new public rally by KEERFA (Socialist Workers Party, SWP) appeared alongside DEA (Sunday School for Migrants) and the occupation of City Plaza on March 17 against “Fortress Europe,” as their statement declares. This is the slogan raised three years ago by the SWP as a cornerstone of the anti-imperialist demand of the whole of the anti-imperialist movement (in relation, of course, to the pro-NATO “left”).
To be precise, once again there is an attempt of the Greek deep state and the migrant exploiters to place pressure to “open the borders” with Turkey in the Evros region. This is a demand of the arch-“philanthropist” and funder of the NATOist and deep state “left” George Soros.
Soros, via the pseudo-humanitarianism of “open borders,” aims for concrete things:

a) Getting employment for migrants
b) Abolishing labor standards and workers’ rights
c) Weakening the states where the migrants are trapped
d) Using the migrants as a “trojan horse” in fronts the deep state seeks to break
e) The rise of xenophobia and the far right, to serve as a “bogeyman.”
f) Organizing anti-Trump rallies in support of Hillary Clinton, as KEERFA has usefully done.

They have on their side all the organizations that are directed by Soros and function for the furtherance of his agenda, such as the deep state KEERFA, that uses the aid it provides to the migrants to exploit them later on. For instance, migrants have been used by KEERFA as an object for the promotion of the pre-electoral campaign of Petros Konstantinou. Another example is the migrants KEERFA has transported to Evros to demand the abolition of the border with Turkey, as without them, KEERFA would have no one to show up at these protests.
Now how can work be found when real unemployment in Greece is between 30 and 40 percent, and even those that allegedly are “employed” can’t find work for more than a few hours a day? How can they claim there is a border between Greece and Turkey now it has been revealed that Greek soldiers were allegedly caught wandering across the woods and ended up in Turkish territory? The media then was obliged to reveal that there is no actual physical border between Greece and Turkey, but that did not stop the globalists from marching with the slogan “down with the fence in Evros.”
Murder and rape of Greek nationals
No Greek government ever stated they would open the borders en masse to all and sundry. A study of neoliberal globalisation and the labour movement is encapsulated in an article here, and more extensively in a book on the purpose behind mass migration. Indeed, a Parliamentary Committee of all the main parties in 1992 did not agree to uncontrolled migration or migration specifically from Muslim countries, as that would endanger the Greeks’ way of life, but as with everything, political parties in Greece always go back on their word.

Placard reading “we are all Pakistanis” at a KEERFA rally

What becomes interesting is that KEERFA realizes that the opposition of the average Greek is massive against uncontrolled migration, and no opinion poll has ever shown otherwise. Realizing they are losing the globalist war of or propaganda in defense of all migrants under any and all conditions, KEERFA focused on the death of a Pakistani migrant and assigned “racist” credentials to it. So in other words, someone can arrive illegally in the country then start blaming the locals for… racism, irrespective of what they have done, or his other compatriots and how they have behaved.
Of course, none of the migrants ever hang out in any wealthy suburbs, so those blamed as being racist are always working class and that is the stick used to beat them into silence. The only alternative would be the dispatch of riot police and imprisonment, as in the famous cases of Ag. Panteleomonas, where a whole community was penalized for not wanting their public square to be turned into a latrine and their women accosted every time they went out. Konstantinou then held rallies with Pakistanis and started chanting in central Athens “we are all Pakistanis”! Konstantinou, of course, can allege to be whatever he wants.
Video of Petros Konstantinou chanting “we are all Pakistanis”:

When a young 15-year old Greek girl from the island of Paros by the name of Myrto was raped and bashed in the head by a Pakistani migrant and left to die, but ended up living in a vegetative state, the response from the “anti-fascist” globalists was that Greeks do much worse things.

15 year old Myrto, raped and brutally attacked by a Pakistani migrant in the island of Paros, now living in a vegetative state

That, of course, is why not these “antifa” and “anti-racist” groups have never once held a demo against the rape or torture of underage girls or pensioners. After all, Greeks are infamous for killing the elderly members of their society, its part of their tradition but they just don’t know it! And right on cue, we have Petros Konstantinou re-educating us, as he did over the Macedonian issue where the nationalism of FYROM is deemed “progressive”…
SEK – The Socialist Workers Party
SEK is a group which establishes various political fronts to promote pure globalism. The irony of the situation is that Konstantinou emerged from there to run their “anti-racist” front. Who runs SEK? None other than Panos Garganas, the twin brother of former central banker during the Simitis regime that introduced the euro to Greece. Not only are we talking Greek deep state here, but specifically its globalist wing which is allied with the shipowners who have no actual nation state-based address and act as footloose corporations in the world they have created: that of the offshore tax-free system that favors their operations. These are KEERFA’s political backers, for to believe that two sons of an ex-ERE (quisling right) member of parliament, the Garganas brothers are actually singing from a different hymn is like believing that KEERFA is interested in… stopping racism.
It was SEK that launched demonstrations in Greece against Trump when he was elected, but did not organize similar demonstrations against Obama who of course didn’t start… any wars. Their problems will magnify now that globalist corporations like Apple and Nike have begun criticizing the U.S. government for implementing protectionist laws against foreign imports, signifying the reversal of the process of globalization. They will be seen to be siding openly with the globalist wing of the ruling class. But they are on the retreat, as no one actually takes them seriously. Konstantinou’s eclipse is pre-determined, as it is part of the conflict between globalism and nation-states. If nations are to survive and thrive, globalism and all of its variants have to buried deep underground, as after all they originate from the shady deep state of politics.
The UN-sponsored anti-racism day

Poster advertising the March 17, 2018 KEEERFA “anti-racist day” rally, on an Athens street.

Every year in March, KEERFA organizes a demonstration alongside the UN’s anti-racism day. Taking into account that no one has never seen Konstantinou gainfully employed anywhere and no record exists of what he actually knows but that he is seen everywhere, one would assume he is on the payroll of various NGOs and is sponsored by some UN fund or other.
There are never any more than a thousand participants at any of the rallies for migrants, and they are specifically chosen to be held at around 3 pm on a Saturday to avoid contact with Greeks, as most would have left the center. In turn, the police, in order to ensure they can create maximum discomfort, block off all roads from Omonoia Square to Syntagma Square and alongside the Parliament all the way to the Megaro Maximou mansion (the prime minister’s official residence). This is done in order for the “demonstrators” to pretend they are railing against the government when, in fact, they are directly in favor of the government and the policy of open borders.
One also notices that Konstantinou readily has access to the global media. For instance, one reading such reports in the Chinese press might come away believing that the open border for the import and sale of Chinese goods in Greece has no repercussions on domestic production and unemployment. A similar argument was made when successive governments pushed hard to bring in Chinese companies and workers at Greece’s ports, operating on Chinese wages. The ideal world of Konstantinou and his “anti-racism” is all about a new global slave labour empire, whilst anyone who criticizes it is branded with the label of being a… racist.

KEERFA-sponsored “anti-racist day” rally at Omonoia Square in Athens, March 17, 2018

After this year’s anti-racist day march on March 17, which was supported by the SYRIZA breakaway party Popular Unity (LAE), KEERFA produced a statement on its website. It is noteworthy that they never publish an aerial view of their demos, as their size is minimal and the time chosen is when there are no Greeks in the vicinity. The statement claimed that they were again attacked by violent thugs from Golden Dawn. The fact is that KEERFA circulates leaflets bearing the name “Republic of Macedonia” just after the giant Macedonian rallies, while they allege Greece is being aggressive in the Aegean despite the kidnapping of the two Greek soldiers in full army uniform by Turkey, with accusations that they were spying (how could one be spying in military uniform!).
KEERFA demonstrators have been rounded upon by citizens in areas they considered their turf, such as Kallithea and Galatsi in Athens. KEERFA allege that the police didn’t intervene, as obviously they are all Golden Dawn supporters. The case may be that the “attackers” were instead average citizens who were provoked by the globalist garbage that spews out of the mouth of KEERFA.
Either way, this is perhaps a sign of things to come. Globalism is on the retreat in more ways than one.

FBI recommended Michael Flynn not have lawyer present during interview, did not warn of false statement consequences

Flynn is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 18.

Washington Examiner

Published

on

Via The Washington Examiner…

Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, who arranged the bureau’s interview with then-national security adviser Michael Flynn at the White House on Jan. 24, 2017 — the interview that ultimately led to Flynn’s guilty plea on one count of making false statements — suggested Flynn not have a lawyer present at the session, according to newly-filed court documents. In addition, FBI officials, along with the two agents who interviewed Flynn, decided specifically not to warn him that there would be penalties for making false statements because the agents wanted to ensure that Flynn was “relaxed” during the session.

The new information, drawn from McCabe’s account of events plus the FBI agents’ writeup of the interview — the so-called 302 report — is contained in a sentencing memo filed Tuesday by Flynn’s defense team.

Citing McCabe’s account, the sentencing memo says that shortly after noon on Jan. 24 — the fourth day of the new Trump administration — McCabe called Flynn on a secure phone in Flynn’s West Wing office. The two men discussed business briefly and then McCabe said that he “felt that we needed to have two of our agents sit down” with Flynn to discuss Flynn’s talks with Russian officials during the presidential transition.

McCabe, by his own account, urged Flynn to talk to the agents alone, without a lawyer present. “I explained that I thought the quickest way to get this done was to have a conversation between [Flynn] and the agents only,” McCabe wrote. “I further stated that if LTG Flynn wished to include anyone else in the meeting, like the White House counsel for instance, that I would need to involve the Department of Justice. [Flynn] stated that this would not be necessary and agreed to meet with the agents without any additional participants.”

Within two hours, the agents were in Flynn’s office. According to the 302 report quoted in the Flynn sentencing document, the agents said Flynn was “relaxed and jocular” and offered the agents “a little tour” of his part of the White House.

“The agents did not provide Gen. Flynn with a warning of the penalties for making a false statement under 18 U.S.C. 1001 before, during, or after the interview,” the Flynn memo says. According to the 302, before the interview, McCabe and other FBI officials “decided the agents would not warn Flynn that it was a crime to lie during an FBI interview because they wanted Flynn to be relaxed, and they were concerned that giving the warnings might adversely affect the rapport.”

The agents had, of course, seen transcripts of Flynn’s wiretapped conversations with Russian then-ambassador Sergey Kislyak. “Before the interview, FBI officials had also decided that if ‘Flynn said he did not remember something they knew he said, they would use the exact words Flynn used … to try to refresh his recollection. If Flynn still would not confirm what he said … they would not confront him or talk him through it,'” the Flynn memo says, citing the FBI 302.

“One of the agents reported that Gen. Flynn was ‘unguarded’ during the interview and ‘clearly saw the FBI agents as allies,'” the Flynn memo says, again citing the 302.

Later in the memo, Flynn’s lawyers argue that the FBI treated Flynn differently from two other Trump-Russia figures who have pleaded guilty to and been sentenced for making false statements. One of them, Alexander Van der Zwaan, “was represented by counsel during the interview; he was interviewed at a time when there was a publicly disclosed, full-bore investigation regarding Russian interference in the 2016 election; and he was given a warning that it is a federal crime to lie during the interview,” according to the memo. The other, George Papadopoulos, “was specifically notified of the seriousness of the investigation…was warned that lying to investigators was a ‘federal offense’…had time to reflect on his answers…and met with the FBI the following month for a further set of interviews, accompanied by his counsel, and did not correct his false statements.”

The message of the sentencing memo is clear: Flynn, his lawyers suggest, was surprised, rushed, not warned of the context or seriousness of the questioning, and discouraged from having a lawyer present.

That is all the sentencing document contains about the interview itself. In a footnote, Flynn’s lawyers noted that the government did not object to the quotations from the FBI 302 report.

In one striking detail, footnotes in the Flynn memo say the 302 report cited was dated Aug. 22, 2017 — nearly seven months after the Flynn interview. It is not clear why the report would be written so long after the interview itself.

The brief excerpts from the 302 used in the Flynn defense memo will likely spur more requests from Congress to see the original FBI documents. Both House and Senate investigating committees have demanded that the Justice Department allow them to see the Flynn 302, but have so far been refused.

In the memo, Flynn’s lawyers say that he made a “serious error in judgment” in the interview. Citing Flynn’s distinguished 30-plus year record of service in the U.S. Army, they ask the judge to go along with special counsel Robert Mueller’s recommendation that Flynn be spared any time in prison.

Macron offers crumbs to protestors in bid to save his globalist agenda (Video)

The Duran Quick Take: Episode 36.

Alex Christoforou

Published

on

The Duran’s Alex Christoforou and Editor-in-Chief Alexander Mercouris take a quick look at French President Macron’s pathetic display of leadership as he offers protestors little in the way of concessions while at the same time promising to crack down hard on any and all citizens who resort to violence.

Meanwhile France’s economy is set for a deep recession as French output and production grinds to a halt.

As if Brussels didn’t have its hands full already with Italy and the UK, the European Union will soon be forced to rationalize why one of its favorite core members is allowed to pursue populist measures to blow out its budget deficit to ease domestic unrest while another is threatened with fines potentially amounting to billions of euros.

When blaming Russia failed to quell the widespread anger elicited by his policies, French President Emmanuel Macron tried to appease the increasingly violent “yellow vests” protesters who have sacked his capital city by offering massive tax cuts that could blow the French budget out beyond the 3% budget threshold outlined in the bloc’s fiscal rules.

Given the concessions recently offered by Italy’s populists, Macron’s couldn’t have picked a worse time to challenge the bloc’s fiscal conventions. As Bloomberg pointed out, these rules will almost certainly set the Continent’s second largest economy on a collision course with Brussels. To be clear, Macron’s offered cuts come with a price tag of about €11 billion according to Les Echos, and will leave the country with a budget gap of 3.5% of GDP in 2019, with one government official said the deficit may be higher than 3.6%.

By comparison, Italy’s initial projections put its deficit target at 2.4%, a number which Europe has repeatedly refused to consider.

Macron’s promises of fiscal stimulus – which come on top of his government’s decision to delay the planned gas-tax hikes that helped inspire the protests – were part of a broader ‘mea culpa’ offered by Macron in a speech Monday night, where he also planned to hike France’s minimum wage.

Of course, when Brussels inevitably objects, perhaps Macron could just show them this video of French police tossing a wheelchair-bound protester to the ground.

Already, the Italians are complaining.  Speaking on Tuesday, Italian cabinet undersecretary Giancarlo Giorgetti said Italy hasn’t breached the EU deficit limit. “I repeat that from the Italian government there is a reasonable approach, if there is one also from the EU a solution will be found.”

“France has several times breached the 3% deficit. Italy hasn’t done it. They are different situations. There are many indicators to assess.”

Still, as one Guardian columnist pointed out in an op-ed published Tuesday morning, the fact that the gilets jaunes (yellow vest) organizers managed to pressure Macron to cave and grant concessions after just 4 weeks of protests will only embolden them to push for even more radical demands: The collapse of the government of the supremely unpopular Macron.

Then again, with Brussels now facing certain accusations of hypocrisy, the fact that Macron was pressured into the exact same populist measures for which Italy has been slammed, the French fiasco raises the odds that Rome can pass any deficit measure it wants with the EU now forced to quietly look away even as it jawbones all the way from the bank (i.e., the German taxpayers).

“Macron’s spending will encourage Salvini and Di Maio,” said Giovanni Orsina, head of the School of Government at Rome’s Luiss-Guido Carli University. “Macron was supposed to be the spearhead of pro-European forces, if he himself is forced to challenge EU rules, Salvini and Di Maio will jump on that to push their contention that those rules are wrong.”

While we look forward to how Brussels will square this circle, markets are less excited.

Exhausted from lurching from one extreme to another following conflicting headlines, traders are already asking if “France is the new Italy.” The reason: the French OAT curve has bear steepened this morning with 10Y yields rising as much as ~6bp, with the Bund/OAT spread reaching the widest since May 2017 and the French presidential election. Though well below the peaks of last year, further widening would push the gap into levels reserved for heightened political risk.

As Bloomberg macro analyst Michael Read notes this morning, it’s hard to see a specific near-term trigger blowing out the Bund/OAT spread but the trend looks likely to slowly drift higher.

While Macron has to fight on both domestic and European fronts, he’ll need to keep peace at home to stay on top. Remember that we saw the 10Y spread widen to ~80bps around the May ’17 elections as concerns of a move toward the political fringe played out in the markets, and the French President’s popularity ratings already look far from rosy.

And just like that France may have solved the Italian crisis.

Watch: Democrat Chuck Schumer shows his East Coast elitism on live TV

Amazing moment in which the President exhibits “transparency in government” and shows the world who the Democrat leaders really are.

Seraphim Hanisch

Published

on

One of the reasons Donald Trump was elected to the Presidency was because of his pugnacious, “in your face” character he presented – and promised TO present – against Democrat policy decisions and “stupid government” in general.

One of the reasons President Donald Trump is reviled is because of his pugnacious, “in your face” character he presented – and promised TO present – in the American political scene.

In other words, there are two reactions to the same characteristic. On Tuesday, the President did something that probably cheered and delighted a great many Americans who witnessed this.

The Democrats have been unanimous in taking any chance to roast the President, or to call for his impeachment, or to incite violence against him. But Tuesday was President Trump’s turn. He invited the two Democrat leaders, presumptive incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, and then, he turned the cameras on:

As Tucker Carlson notes, the body language from Schumer was fury. The old (something)-eating grin covered up humiliation, embarrassment and probably no small amount of fear, as this whole incident was filmed and broadcast openly and transparently to the American public. Nancy Pelosi was similarly agitated, and she expressed it later after this humiliation on camera, saying, “It’s like a manhood thing for him… As if manhood could ever be associated with him.”

She didn’t stop there. According to a report from the New York Daily News, the Queen Bee took the rhetoric a step below even her sense of dignity:

Pelosi stressed she made clear to Trump there isn’t enough support in Congress for a wall and speculated the President is refusing to back down because he’s scared to run away with his tail between his legs.

“I was trying to be the mom. I can’t explain it to you. It was so wild,” Pelosi said of the Oval Office meet, which was also attended by Vice President Pence and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.). “It goes to show you: you get into a tinkle contest with a skunk, you get tinkle all over you.”

This represented the first salvo in a major spin-job for the ultra-liberal San Francisco Democrat. The rhetoric spun by Mrs. Pelosi and Chuck Schumer was desperate as they tried to deflect their humiliation and place it back on the President:

With reporters still present, Trump boasted during the Oval meeting he would be “proud” to shutdown the government if Congress doesn’t earmark cash for his wall before a Dec. 21 spending deadline.

Pelosi told Democrats that Trump’s boisterousness will be beneficial for them.

“The fact is we did get him to say, to fully own that the shutdown was his,” Pelosi said. “That was an accomplishment.”

The press tried to characterize this as a “Trump Tantrum”, saying things like this lede:

While “discussing” a budgetary agreement for the government, President Donald Trump crossed his arms and declared: “we will shut down the government if there is no wall.”

While the Democrats and the mainstream media in the US are sure to largely buy these interpretations of the event, the fact that this matter was televised live shows that the matter was entirely different, and this will be discomfiting to all but those Democrats and Trump-dislikers that will not look at reality.

There appears to be a twofold accomplishment for the President in this confrontation:

  1. The President revealed to his support base the real nature of the conversation with the Democrat leadership, because anyone watching this broadcast (and later, video clip) saw it unedited with their own eyes. They witnessed the pettiness of both Democrats and they witnessed a President completely comfortable and confident about the situation.
  2. President Trump probably made many of his supporters cheer with the commitment to shut down the government if he doesn’t get his border wall funding. This cheering is for both the strength shown about getting the wall finished and the promise to shut the government down, and further, Mr. Trump’s assertion that he would be “proud” to shut the government down, taking complete ownership willingly, reflects a sentiment that many of his supporters share.

The usual pattern is for the media, Democrats and even some Republicans to create a “scare” narrative about government shutdowns, about how doing this is a sure-fire path to chaos and suffering for the United States.

But the educated understanding of how shutdowns work reveals something completely different. Vital services never close. However, National Parks can close partly or completely, and some non-essential government agencies are shuttered. While this is an inconvenience for the employees furloughed during the shutdown, they eventually are re-compensated for the time lost, and are likely to receive help during the shutdown period if they need it. The impact on the nation is minimal, aside from the fact that the government stops spending money at the same frenetic pace as usual.

President Trump’s expression of willingness to do this action and his singling out of the Dem leadership gives the Democrats a real problem. Now the entire country sees their nature. As President Trump is a populist, this visceral display of Democrat opposition and pettiness will make at least some impact on the population, even that group of people who are not Trump fans.

The media reaction and that of the Democrats here show, amazingly, that after three years-plus of Donald Trump being a thorn in their side, they still do not understand how he works, and they also cannot match it against their expected “norms” of establishment behavior.

This may be a brilliant masterstroke, and it also may be followed up by more. The President relishes head-to-head conflict. The reactions of these congress members showed who they really are.

Let the games begin.
